Taking a New Look at New Year's Resolutions
Happy New Year! 2010 is a new beginning! We get a new calendar and we collectively take a deep breath and sigh - consciously or subconsciously - saying "Boy, I'll never do that again! or "Next year things will be different!" We make New Year's resolutions and somehow fail to notice that they are the same unachieved resolutions we made last year and the year before that, ad infinitum (or ad nauseam, depending on your mood). Here are ten healthy ways to achieve New Year's Resolutions in 2010:
10 Healthy Ways to Achieve New Year's Resolutions:
1. Write them down and keep a journal of your progress.
2. Create realistic goals.
3. Join/Create a Parent Peer Group and share your goals with friends who will support you along the way.
4. Continue learning - attend an Informed Families Lunch & Learn.
5. Get in touch with your higher power.
6. Spend some time each day reflecting on your life.
7. Live in the present moment.
8. Tell someone you harmed that you are sorry.
9. Remain flexible and positive.
10. Smile, laugh and be thankful for your life!
Look our for the February CATalyst when I will be writing about why underage drinking and drug prevention is just as relevant to parents of teenagers as it is to parents of children 0-5.
Until next time,
