Red Ribbon Week in South Dakota

The Mitchell School District has been hard at working preparing for Red Ribbon Week. Find out more about what our affiliate in South Dakota has planned for this year's Red Ribbon celebration:

Highlights of Red Ribbon Week:

  • Haunted Dance

  • A dance hosted on October 23rd for 6th-8th graders, including a dance-off, costume contest, prizes, a more! A separate dance was held later that night for 9th-12th graders, and offered a safe alternative to other Halloween activities, including dancing, contests and prizes!

  • Trunk or Treat

  • Unfiltered REALity, a local tobacco use prevention group, and the Mitchell High School Peer Helpers hosted the 9th Annual Trunk or Treat, a safe, drug, alcohol and tobacco free event. Over 40 businesses and organizations provided sweet treats to over 1,000 children ages 1 through 6.

  • Red Ribbon Week Theme Days

  • Monday: "Sock it to Drugs" by wearing crazy socks.
Tuesday: "Band Together Against Drugs" by wearing a band or rock shirt.
Wednesday: "Give Drugs the Slip" and wear your slippers.
Thursday: "Staying Drug Free is No Sweat" - wear your sweat suits.
Friday: "Don't be Tied Down to Drugs" and wear your necktie.

As well as poster contests, daily announcements encouraging students to remain drug-free, and fun, interactive skits!
